Spiritual Farming: Menstruation, Germination, and Harvest
Was cannabis a "plant that came from the sky"?
It is not just superstition that humans have found divinity in plants. In times when the movement of celestial bodies was strongly linked to the agricultural cycle, plants were like **antennas that received messages from the sky**.
In particular, hemp (cannabis) has been worshipped around the world as a “spiritual crop” that is deeply connected to both the sun and the moon.
・It grows quickly and is sensitive to sunlight (photoperiod)
・The rhythm of germination, flowering, and harvesting is in sync with the phases of the moon
・The fibers, seeds, and inflorescences are all symbols of “circulation”
Because of these characteristics, cannabis is considered a “spiritual plant” that is in tune with celestial rhythms, and it has been deeply associated with the moon in many cultures, including Japan.

Moon worship and the agricultural cycle: "Planting and praying with the moon"
Worship of the moon is also strongly present in Japanese mythology. Tsukuyomi is the god who rules over the night and is said to be in charge of “darkness and purification” and “stillness and circulation.”
In ancient times, a method called lunar agriculture (biodynamic agriculture) was practiced, which synchronized farming with the phases of the moon as follows:
🌑 New Moon: Sowing seeds, planting intentions
🌓 Waxing Crescent Moon: Promotes growth and leaves
🌕 Full Moon: Harvesting/extraction, maximum energy
🌗 Waning Moon: Pruning, root care, cleansing and rebuilding
In particular, when it comes to cultivating hemp, sowing seeds on a new moon will result in stronger and more flexible fibers. Harvesting before the full moon will result in the most concentrated resin (cannabinoids). These are the rules of thumb that farmers have passed down since ancient times. This is not a “superstition”; it coincides with research findings that show that the hormone, water, and mineral concentrations of plants actually change due to the gravitational pull of the moon.
Menstruation and Hemp: The Resonance of the Feminine Cycle and Plants
Hemp and the moon also share the common theme of being symbols of femininity. The menstrual cycle averages 28 days, coinciding with the phases of the moon. Hemp also depends on the light cycle, taking 28 to 30 days from sowing seeds to flowering, depending on the variety. Menstruation is not only a form of excretion, but also a rhythm of purification and rebirth, the “inner full moon and new moon.” In shamanic culture and the tradition of shrine Kagura, it is said that there was a ritual in which women dressed in hemp cloth offered prayers on the night of the full moon. This was a deep act of harmony, ‘aligning the rhythms of the body, earth, and stars.’

Hemp and spiritual farming: the fusion of prayer and the power of nurturing
As of 2025, “spiritual farming” is being re-evaluated around the world – a form of farming that links consciousness, heavenly bodies, and plants. The following “energy farming” techniques are also practiced in cannabis cultivation:
Before planting, **purify the area (sage, exorcism, tuning fork)**
Sow seeds with prayer on the new moon (purpose: intention = fill consciousness)
Harvest with gratitude before the full moon
After harvesting, the leaves are exposed to the light of the full moon while they dry, allowing the vibrations to be sealed in.
This whole process feels more like “creating a vibrational field” than like growing a crop. In other words, hemp is not “just something to grow,” but something to live with and pray for as you grow it.
